Welcome to my blog, where I document my adventures. I hope you have a nice stay!

Life Lately and Upcoming Travel

In less than a month - as of yesterday - my friend and I are headed to Central/Eastern Europe! Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, and Prague, to be exact and in that order. We are both really excited. On the 9th, I’m running the Budapest marathon and I could not be more excited about that either. I’ve been training, working on my speedwork, and doing my long runs with my sister. I’m feeling confident but not overly confident like I felt for Riga, which I think was my downfall. I also am managing to do two long runs before this race. I ran a little over 19 miles last weekend and my sister and I will be running 20 miles together in two weeks, which will be her farthest run ever at that point. After the race, I can’t wait to relax a lot and enjoy all that the cities have to offer.

In other news, my sister and I made a quick trip down to Atlanta earlier this month because my grandma passed away and we attended the funeral and celebrated her life. We got to see a lot of family and it was nice to have a little break to see everyone all at once for the first time in years.

Finally, in life news, I did a two week long silks intensive session and “graduated” to the next level, Intermediate II. The intensive session was advanced though and it was a great challenge. We all felt so strong at the end and I hope none of us lost that over the break. I learned a lot of really interesting new climbs and tricks and tested my endurance and learned I can stay in the air for an intensive 9 minute routine. I had sweat rolling off of my forearms by that time but I did it. I have been working on my flexibility and handstands in the meantime and I tried a lyra class. Lyra was fun but there is quite a bit of spinning and bruising involved and I prefer silks.

In travel-related news, I have a trip to LA coming up two weeks before Europe. Poor planning on my part, I’m going to see the friend I’m traveling with, however I’m also taking some private silks sessions while I”m out there and we’ll be seeing Sigur Ros at the Hollywood Bowl - which should be a great show!

About two weeks after I return from Europe, I am headed to San Francisco for our fall conference for work. It is an extremely intense, busy, and tiring week but I shall manage.

In December my sister and I will be going to Florida for Christmas and then there is a nice break with no trips. In late February though, I’m blazing new personal trails and headed to Panama City, Panama with two friends. We also plan to go to Colombia and have not narrowed down the city we want to go to but the options are Bogota, Cartagena, and Medellin. My travel until this point has been to North America and Europe only so I’m thrilled to be heading to a new continent!

Lastly, I registered for a marathon on June 3, 2017, in the Faroe Islands - they’re a tiny group of islands quite a bit north of Scotland and are a self-governing nation within the Danish state. I’ll be flying through Reykjavik, heading directly to Copenhagen for 3.5 days, and then flying to the islands for 4.5 days and will run the Torshavn marathon. On the way back I’ll be spending one night and almost a full day in Reykjavik because I love that place. After Torshavn and Copenhagen, I have big plans for travel but they’re a little unconventional. All I will say is that I will be looking for a Central or Eastern European fall marathon (probably) to run since it will be close to me at that point and I like to run 2 a year.

Oh and for anyone keeping track, that is 8 new countries this year and plans for 4 already next year, bringing my total to 23 by next June and 19 by the end of 2016.

Traveling solo: one of my few complaints

Oh..... Jet Lag: Shanghai
