A week in Florida
I had the week between Christmas and New Year’s off from work so my sister and I made our annual trek by car to Florida. Every year we say we are not driving again - we do take two days to do it - but I really think 2016 was our last drive. We’re both getting too old for that and it is just so tiring and a waste of four days of our lives.
That said, we made the most of our time. We got to see aunts, uncles, and cousins on both my mom’s and dad’s side of the family and so we went to Orlando and to SW Georgia (near Thomasville) and then we spent enough time in Jacksonville for my sister to see two of her friends, one of whom was in town for the holidays from her new teaching post in Yangon, Myanmar and the other is just a childhood friend who has a geat new job that she is very happy with and loves.
I was excited that I got to see a friend who I have known since 9th grade and we were freshman year roommates in college at the University of Florida. I was in her wedding over 10 years ago(!) and I try to see her when I go to Jacksonville at Christmas time but I wish that I got to see her more.
The nice thing was, in between all of the driving to see family and hanging out and chatting with family, I found time to meet up with Alex for lunch and wandering through the gardens and galleries of the Cummer Museum while in Jacksonville. The Cummer was always one of my favorite places to visit while growing up because I enjoy the gardens and art so it was fun to revisit it with a good friend, catch up and chat, and use my new camera in various settings to document the “winter” in Florida.
