After 4 pretty busy weekends in a row, I finally have a free weekend where I’m not obligated to do anything, I have packed it pretty full of stuff though. I have been out of town 3 of the last 4 so now I am catching up with friends, cleaning and organizing my apartment, and hopefully having some relaxation time too. I am also dog-sitting for a repeat client until April 3rd, so I have a furry companion keeping me company at home. On to the links this week!
Interesting stuff to read-
Linking this article about archaeologists using declassified U2 spy plane images because one of the researchers/professors is a friend and a former silks classmate of mine. Emily moved to Philly 2 years because she accepted an exciting faculty position at the University of Pennsylvania.
I read this last Friday but it made me laugh. I have to admit I don’t know anything about Elizabeth Holmes, Theranos, or the book or documentary other than it sounds like she’s kind of evil.
I used to NEVER EVER forget to take this. In the last month, I’ve forgotten 4-5 times and had to catch up. So I find this birth control fascinating and weird.
Swim-up taco bar, let’s go.
Because I’m no longer super loyal to American Airlines (sorry, AA, I lost my status and I lost my interest in maintaining it) I have flown quite a few airlines in the last 12 months based on what is cheapest. EVEN SPIRIT (gasp). What I learned is that my backpack fits within Spirit’s personal item size and I can travel with just a backpack - I’ve done it for a weekend up to a whole week in Mexico. Since I only have two international trips planned for 2019 so far, to British Columbia, Canada and Ecuador, I’d consider a budget carrier like Norwegian simply to satisfy my wish for another international getaway. This article explains what you’re getting yourself into if you’ve never flown a low-cost carrier, especially if you have never flown one overseas. BUT, now read this and know that you can buy travel insurance for low cost carriers and be in less of a pickle should something similar happen to you. I had a flight that was canceled by Air Berlin two years ago, two weeks prior to me leaving for a trip to Malta. I had to dispute the charge with my credit card, was eventually refunded in full, only to get a pdf letter via email a year later from the lawyers in Germany demanding that I pay for what I owe. Haha, I’m never paying for a flight I didn’t get to take and I wrote them back exactly that, and told them that they ruined my vacation and I lost other money on flights and hotels that I could not recover.
New entry requirements for entering New Zealand. Spoiler alert, they’re not bad.
That’s it for this week! I have a busy Friday and weekend ahead and hope you have a good one!
