My sweetheart of 11.5 years passed away early Saturday morning at home. It was traumatic and I miss him terribly. Even though I loved to travel, I missed him when I did and would check in with his dogsitter (usually my sister and brother in law) daily. He was always my favorite part about coming home. He would get so excited when he saw me and didn't want to leave my side and I would get a million kisses upon reuniting.
He also got concerned any time a suitcase or bag came out and would cry. I had developed a clandestine packing method to not upset him. He just LOVED me. And I loved him. He never met a stranger but he loved me most, which was fitting.
I have so many funny, happy, sweet memories of him. He was a sweet little goofball who made my life happier, funnier, sweeter, and reminded me to slow down and greet everyone with a smile as well. My neighborhood in Chicago is a melting pot of everything and Rocco greeted everyone with a tail wag and a doggy kiss and I relearned to greet everyone and talk to everyone who crossed my path.
I've been telling all of my pet-owning friends to give their dogs and cats extra hugs and pets this weekend. We are lucky to have dogs and cats in our lives and that they love us unconditionally. Their sweet furry faces are irreplaceable.
